(Editor’s Note: Jewish Youth Director Kari Semel is leading a group of Jewish Louisville teens in Poland for the 2018 March of the Living, and she will be sending home photos of their experiences.)Today, on Yom HaShoah, Louisville teens marched from Auschwitz to Birkenau with nearly 20,000 other participants. The girls were so honored to represent Kentucky at the 30th anniversary of the March of the Living. We were surrounded by more Jews today than the entire Jewish population of Louisville. I feel so lucky to be able to walk out of the gates of Auschwitz surrounded by so many others who will ensure that the Shoah will never be forgotten.
