LesMills BODYPUMP Classes Start in September

The most popular group fitness class in the world is starting at the JCC on September 4. The LesMills BODYPUMP workout series uses low weight with high intensity, high repetition to burn up to 600 calories per hour class. Using fast-paced music and up-beat instructors, the new class is guaranteed to provide a kick-start to any workout routine.

Already in more than 80 countries worldwide, LesMills was founded in New Zealand to create a fitter planet, one workout at a time. BODYPUMP is the original LesMills class. Grab a barbell to burn fat and gain strength and lean muscle.

“LesMills brings in instant quality to the JCC,” says Senior Director of Membership and Wellness Larry Mestel. “We could have spent several months developing our own version, but LesMills already has the quality classes established.”

BODYPUMP will be free for members as part of the group fitness schedule. Nine BODYPUMP classes will be added to the schedule, making more than 100 free group fitness classes per week available for all JCC members.

The intense workouts are led by an instructor trained by LesMills and set to music. It is impossible to get bored with the workouts. They change four times a year, bringing in new music and new routines.

“LesMills can make a good instructor great because they change it up so often. Every three months, they will launch something new,” said Mestel.

The workouts provide more than 800 repetitions in a single class, all using low weight barbells. Since it is low weight, muscles will not bulk up. Instead, participants will develop long, lean muscle while they lose fat.

“The low weight but high repetitions are ideal for burning calories and fatiguing muscles,” says Fitness Director Ron Peacock. “At first, people will be sore after doing the workout, but the results will come quickly too.”

Members are invited to bring their friends to select LesMills classes in September for free.
