Larry O’Bannon Signs with Maccabi Haifa

AVENTURA, Florida – The Maccabi Haifa professional basketball team of the Israeli Basketball Super League announced on September 19 they have signed former University of Louisville guard (2001-05) Larry O’Bannon to a one-year contract.

O’Bannon, 27, has been a dominant player in the Israeli Basketball Super League for the past two seasons for Rishon Lezion, where he was the team’s top scorer both seasons. The 6-foot-4 guard, a native of Louisville, averaged 16.6 points (9th highest in the Super League) during the 2009-10 season and 17 points per game during the 2008-09 season.

From 2005-2008, O’Bannon played in some of the top professional international basketball leagues including Italy’s top division, Greece’s top division, as well as Serbia’s top division. O’Bannon, who played four seasons at the University of Louisville, earned West Regional MVP honors in the 2005 NCAA tournament in which Louisville reached the Final Four for the first time since 1986.

“We are very pleased with the signing of Larry O’Bannon, who can score both from three-point line and attack the basket,” said Maccabi Haifa coach Elad Hasin.
