Lace Up Your Running Shoes in December Get Ready for Dreidel Dash

Chanukah always means excitement and games. This year, the JCC invites you to participate in a brand new dreidel game – a 5K Dreidel Dash race and one-mile Family Fun Run – both part of the ongoing JCC@125 celebration.

The fun begins on Sunday, December 6, at 1:15 p.m. on a course that starts and ends at the JCC. Register for the 5K run prior to November 27, and your fee is just $25. Late registrations will be accepted, but the fee will be $35. All 5K Dreidel Dash participates will receive a swag bag and performance T-shirt. The free Family Fun Run on the JCC grounds will begin at 2:30.

The fun continues with an after-race party in the JCC’s upper gym. There will be a DJ, vendors and children’s activities. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Chanukah party without latkes and donuts.

All events are open to the entire community. The cost of admission to the party, whether or not you participate in the Dreidel Dash or the Family Fun Run, is a canned good for the Jewish Family & Career Services Food Pantry.

“We hope to make the 5K Dreidel Dash a yearly event,” said committee member Mat Shalenko. With the cooler weather, it’s a good time of year for that kind of race, he continued. “Experienced runners like 5Ks to see if they can improve their speed,” he said. “It’s also good for beginners because it is one of the shortest races.”
It will be a great event for families, and Shalenko encourages everyone to “come out and show support for the first annual Dreidel Dash. The more successful this is, the better we’ll be able to make future ones.”

In addition to Shalenko, Phil Feger, Suzy Hillebrand Steve Houser, Dave Marchal and Chester Misbach are on the Dreidel Dash Committee. They are working with JCC Staffers Mike Steklof, Grace Ensign and Lisa Lanzet.
