Republic Bank Golf Challenge
Monday, June 27, is the date for this fun-filled golf outing at the new location – Standard Country Club. Great silent auction and lunch and dinner are included. The cost is $250 per golfer. Sponsorships are still available at all levels.

New this year, in addition to the golf…
You’ll Love Tennis! – During the golf challenge at Standard, there will be a Tennis Tournament from 2-5 p.m. It will be a mixed doubles, round robin format for 3.0 or below and 3.5 or above. Register as an individual or as a doubles team. The $60/person cost includes dinner.
Seven No Trump! – During the golf challenge at Standard, there will be a Duplicate Bridge Tournament from 1-5 p.m. Grab your favorite bridge partner and register. The cost is $25/person; $35/person if you want dinner.

Services

Senior Concierge Homecare
The program provides seniors with a care manager who works with the older adult and family members to provide the needed support to maintain safety, comfort and peace of mind. Services include personal care and grooming, meal planning and preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, medication reminders, socialization and activity and respite.  JFCS Older Adult Counselors evaluate and monitor the plan for care and will communicate conditions with the family. Whether it’s 24/7 care or just a few hours a week, dedicated caregivers provide the quality of service you deserve.  Contact Mauri Malka at ext. 250 for an appointment.

College Selection

Options for the Mature Worker
JFCS provides free career counseling for adults 60 and over who are contemplating changing careers, exploring post-retirement careers or need help with basic job search skills. For more information, contact Andrea Wehrley at awehrley@jfcslouisville.org or ext. 334.

JFCS Volunteer Orientation
The next Volunteer Orientation for brand new volunteers will be held on Monday, May 23, at 11 a.m. or 7 p.m. (pick one time.) New volunteers must attend this orientation before being assigned a volunteer position. If interested in becoming a volunteer with JFCS, please email Shelley Kahn at skahn@jfcslouisville.org.

JFCS Food Pantry Items Needed
Food Pantry suggestions for May are crackers, potato chips, cookies, brownie mixes and cake mixes. All donated food must be in its original packaging. Please do not donate expired items.

Oral History
Help an older adult record 20 answers to 20 questions to capture their personal life story and archive their history. Assist one client at a time according to your schedule. JFCS will do all of the transcriptions. This is a wonderful and rewarding volunteer opportunity.

Shabbos Friend Assistant
Assistant needed on the third Friday of each month from 10-11 a.m. to help organize Shabbos Friends outreach bags with challahs and grape juice.

Support Groups and Workshops

Anonymous Help Phone Line
The Klempner Center provides preventative educational programs for children and teens and community educational seminars and workshops on topics related to addictions. An anonymous phone line has been established for the Jewish community that is answered by a Jewish person in a 12-step recovery program. This person will direct you to a program that provides help. Call 727-9287 and leave a message. Your phone call will be returned quickly, and you can get help for yourself or a loved one. Jews in the community do have problems with alcoholism, drug abuse, overeating, gambling and other addictions. Jews in the community also are members of 12-step recovery programs.

Job Seekers Resource Group
The Job Seekers Resource Group will meet Mondays, May 2-June 6 from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Participants can learn basic job search skills from an experienced career advisor. There is a $10 one-time materials fee. For more information contact Andrea Wehrley at ext. 334.

Caregiver Support Groups
Caregiver support groups help adult children of aging parents learn about community resources and ways to balance their needs with those of aging relatives. One group meets at JFCS every fourth Thursday at 7 p.m. Contact Mauri Malka at ext. 250.

Diabetes Support Group
Individuals with diabetes can talk about living with this chronic condition and share the ways they cope. The Diabetes Support Group meets the third Monday of each month at 1:30 p.m. Contact Jenny Schinke ext. 307.

Grandparent/Relative Caregiver Resource Groups
A support group for anyone raising grandchildren or other relatives meets at JFCS, every third Monday at 2 p.m. Call Jo Ann Kalb at ext. 335 to RSVP or if you need further information.

Start a New Career in the Health Care Field as a Home Care Aide
Jewish Family & Career Services is seeking persons interested in entering the Healthcare field. Interested participants will receive training to become a non-medical Home Care Aide who can perform homemaking tasks and personal care for older adults.

This is an Employment Training Program that consists of 40 hours of paid classroom training and 8 weeks of paid on-the-job training. Case management services will be available throughout the training program to identify and resolve work related issues that may hinder successful employment, career planning and job placement. Ongoing quarterly advisement will continue from the case manager following job placement to assist with career laddering. For more information, please contact Helen Hord at 452-6341, ext. 226.

Choosing an Idea
This workshop helps you decide what kind of business to start and how to test the feasibility of a business idea. Participants completing this class will possess the tools and resources to research the viability of a business idea and complete a feasibility study.
