JFCS International Physicians Advancement Network Meeting
JFCS will hold the first meeting of The International Physicians Advancement Network on Thursday, April 7, from 6-7 p.m. at JFCS (2821 Klempner Way). Dr. Irene Litvan will be the speaker.
This meeting is open to all foreign-trained physicians who are in the process of getting licensed as a doctor in the United States or are interested in learning more about the process and in networking with other foreign-trained physicians.
Dr. Irene Litvan is the Raymond Lee Lebby Professor of Parkinson Disease Research and Director, Division of Movement Disorders at the University of Louisville. Dr. Litvan completed medical school in her native Uruguay and will speak about her experience transitioning into her professional life in the United States.

Family Mitzvah Event
The next Family Mitzvah Event celebrating Passover will be held Sunday, March 27, from 1:30-3 p.m. at JFCS. Families are asked to bring a donation to the JFCS Food Pantry and to help organize the Passover food bags for distribution. There will be art and craft projects for preschool aged children as well. In order to have food for the Passover food bags, JFCS is collecting Passover foods now. For more information, please contact Shelley Kahn at ext.103.
MOSIAC Awards
Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 19, as JFCS recognizes five outstanding new Americans at the MOSAIC Awards. The dinner event will be held at The Henry Clay. Tickets are $100 per person. Table sponsorships are still available for $1,500. Tickets can be purchased on the JFCS website, www.jfcslouisville.org, or contact Beverly Bromley at ext. 223 for more information.
Republic Bank Golf Challenge
Monday, June 27, is the date for this fun-filled golf outing at a new location at Standard Country Club. New this year will be a tennis tournament and a bridge tournament as well as a great silent auction. Lunch and dinner is included. The cost is $250 per golfer; tennis and bridge fee TBA. Senior Concierge Homecare
The program provides seniors with a care manager who provides the needed support to maintain safety, comfort and peace of mind. Services include personal care and grooming, meal planning and preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, medication reminders, socialization and activity and respite. JFCS Older Adult Counselors evaluate and monitor the plan for care and will communicate conditions with the family. Whether it’s 24/7 care or just a few hours a week, dedicated caregivers provide the quality of service deserved. Contact Mauri Malka at ext. 250 for an appointment.

Options for the Mature Worker

JFCS Food Pantry Items Needed
Food Pantry suggestions for April are dried fruits, raisins, prunes, dried beans and dried soup mixes. All donated food must be in its original packaging. Please do not donate expired items.
Oral History
Help an older adult record 20 answers to 20 questions to capture their personal life story and archive their history. Assist one client at a time according to your schedule. JFCS will do all of the transcriptions. This is a wonderful and rewarding volunteer opportunity.
Friendly Visitor
Friendly visitor needed to visit Jewish gentleman in nursing home one time each month for socialization and companionship.
General
Help staple plastic Kroger bags for Dare To Care on Tuesday, March 29, and Wednesday, March 30, any time between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Project to take place at JFCS.
Shabbos Friend Assistant
Assistant needed on the 3rd Friday of each month from 10-11 a.m. to help organize Shabbos Friends outreach bags with challahs and grape juice.
Support Groups and Workshops
Anonymous Help Phone Line
The Klempner Center provides preventative educational programs for children and teens and community educational seminars and workshops on topics related to addictions. An anonymous phone line has been established for the Jewish community that is answered by a Jewish person in a 12-step recovery program. This person will direct you to a program that provides help. Call 727-9287 and leave a message. Your phone call will be returned quickly, and you can get help for yourself or a loved one. Jews in the community do have problems with alcoholism, drug abuse, overeating, gambling and other addictions. Jews in the community also are members of 12-step recovery programs. Job Seekers Resource Group
The Job Seekers Resource Group will meet Mondays, through April 11, from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Participants can learn basic job search skills from an experienced career advisor. There is a $10 one-time materials fee. For more information contact Andrea Wehrley at ext. 334.
A.C.T. Preparation Workshop
A.C.T. Preparation Workshop classes will meet Mondays and Tuesdays, May 9–June 6, for eight sessions from 7-9 p.m. at Jewish Family and Career Services (JFCS). The workshop fee is $170 and includes two textbooks. For more information and to register, call Janet Poole at ext. 222.
JFCS Hosts Knit Night April 7

Caregiver Support Groups
Caregiver support groups help adult children of aging parents learn about community resources and ways to balance their needs with those of aging relatives. One group meets at JFCS every fourth Thursday at 7 p.m. Contact Mauri Malka at ext. 250.
Diabetes Support Group
Individuals with diabetes can talk about living with this chronic condition and share the ways they cope. The Diabetes Support Group meets the third Monday of each month at 1:30 p.m. Contact Jenny Schinke at ext. 307.
Grandparent/Relative Caregiver Resource Groups
A support group for anyone raising grandchildren or other relatives meets at JFCS, every third Monday at 2 p.m. Call Jo Ann Kalb at ext. 335 to RSVP or if you need further information.
