The entire community is invited to attend Jewish Family & Career Services’ Annual Meeting on Tuesday, June 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the JFCS Board Room. Ruth Silon will be discussing her work with the JFCS Food Pantry Committee. She and other volunteers will be recognized for their many contributions to the organization and the new JFCS Community Advisory Council will be introduced.
The annual Mary Gunther Award, which recognizes a JFCS staff person who is judged by the Review Committee to have developed and implemented the best new program/service during the preceding year, also will be presented.
Silon says she is happy to have this opportunity to let the community know how grateful she is for the things JFCS has done for her and her family. Helping with the organization’s Food Pantry is just one way she has found to show her appreciation. “It is actually a fun thing to do,” says Silon.
She finds it rewarding to stock the pantry shelves. Now that JFCS has teamed up with Dare to Care (DtoC), the agency can request fresh vegetables, produce and even chicken, if it is available, for its pantry patrons. The agency repays DtoC with services such as a recent project to fold more than 8,000 plastic grocery bags for use during a food pick-up held in conjunction with the post office during Mother’s Day weekend.
The annual meeting program will also include the installation of officers and board members for 2010-2011. Officer are: president, Mark Ament; vice presidents, Debbie Friedman, Sandi Friedson and Reed Weinberg; and treasurer, Hunt Schuster. At-Large members are Barbara Goldberg and Marty Margulis. Jay Klempner is the immediate past president.
The following individuals are leaving the board: Lowell Katz, Amy Wisotsky and Stephi Wolff. New to the board are Bill Altman, Shelly Breier, Larry Kass, Dr. Laura Klein and Sean Wachsman. They will serve with current board members Sheilah Abramson-Miles, Bonnie Bizer, Lance Gilbert, Ariel Kronenberg, Janet Meyer, Stephanie Mutchnick, Peter Resnik, Doug Roemer, Marsha Beck Roth, Bill Ryan, Beth Salamon and Brian Segal.
A dessert reception will follow the meeting. Please call JFCS at 452-6341 for further details.
