Jewish Federation of Louisville’s “Super Sunday” Event Set for February 17

LOUISVILLE, KY, February 11, 2013 – The Jewish Community Federation’s annual community-wide telethon, Super Sunday, has been totally revamped this year to reach out to a different set of donors and to make the event more fun for all. It will be held on February 17 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center, 3600 Dutchmans Lane.

Volunteers at this “Pre-Oscar Party” are encouraged to dress up as their favorite movie star or character, and when they arrive, they will be treated like celebrities, entering on a red carpet while a photographer snaps their picture. While the atmosphere will be fun-filled, the cause is serious. The volunteers will ask the Kentuckiana public to join in this effort by supporting the Federation Campaign, focusing primarily on those who have supported the Campaign in the past. For just under than $17 a month, a $200 donation provides a month of kosher Meals-On-Wheels for a homebound senior. A donation of a dollar a day can provide a month of respite services for a family with a disabled child.

This year’s Super Sunday event chair, Sarah Harlan, says, “The Jewish Federation of Louisville touches all parts of the Jewish community and the greater Louisville community by turning relatively simple acts of tikkun olam (repair of the world) into extraordinary, meaningful programs and services. Super Sunday is when we make this happen – I like to think of it as the Academy Awards show for our generous donors.”

The Super Sunday telethon provides two ways for community members to help. They can support those in need by making phone calls and/or they donate to the 2013 Federation Campaign when a volunteer calls. For Super Sunday volunteers, the “Pre-Oscar Party” will be a lot of fun, packed with energy, prizes and food.

Funds raised by the Federation Annual Campaign help support the Jewish Community Center, Jewish Family & Career Services, Hillel (the Jewish student organization on college campuses), the Jewish Community Relations Council, a number of educational agencies and Jewish communities in need in Israel and around the world. Funds also help strengthen Louisville’s connection with its Partnership 2Gether region, Israel’s Western Galilee.
