Save the Date
The next Family Mitzvah Event celebrating Passover will be held Sunday, March 27, from 1:30-3 p.m. at JFCS. Families are asked to bring a donation to the JFCS Food Pantry and help organize the Passover food bags for distribution. There will be art and craft projects for preschool aged children as well. For more information, contact Shelley Kahn at 452-6341, ext. 103.

In order to have food for the Passover food bags, JFCS is collecting Passover foods now. A full selection of matzah meal, matzah, potato starch, gelfite fish, cake and brownie mixes, cereals, matzah ball mix and matzah ball soup are needed. Must be Kosher for Passover. All Passover foods are needed by March 21 please. All donated food must be in its original packaging. Please do not donate expired items.

Upcoming Workshops – Wednesday, March 16, at JFCS
On Wednesday, March 16, there will be two free workshops serving as an introduction to micro-business planning classes. “Choosing an Idea” will meet 10-11 a.m. and “Are You Ready?” 11 a.m.-12 noon. JFCS staff members will help individuals who are looking to start a new micro-business. Workshops will include how to develop a good business plan, how to get customers, what licenses or permits will be needed and where to get the money to start. Save the Date: Small Business Workshops – Wednesday, May 11
On Wednesday, May 11, from 9-10 a.m., there will be a small business workshop, “Are You Ready?” The “Choosing an Idea” workshop will be held from 10-11 a.m. Both of these free workshops will be held at Making Connections Network, 334 E. Broadway. For more information and to register, call Gary Liebert at ext. 154.

JFCS Hosts Knit Night
Bring your knitting gear (or crochet or needlepoint) on March 8 at 5:30 p.m. Knitting basics will be taught to get you started, or you can bring an in-progress project. Please RSVP to Pascalle Ballard, ext. 114.

Passover Foods Needed Now for Food Pantry
Food Pantry suggestions for February – Collecting Passover foods now! Oral History Volunteers Needed
Help an older adult record 20 answers to 20 questions in order to capture their personal life story and help to archive their history. Assist one client at a time according to your schedule. JFCS will do all of the transcriptions. This is a wonderful and rewarding volunteer opportunity.

Research Assistant Needed
Assist staff by investigating specific leads and resources on specific topics. Work from home or in the JFCS computer lab.

Computer Data Volunteers Needed
JFCS is in need of data entry volunteers. Hundreds of survey results need to be entered into assigned fields in a database. This volunteer job requires only very basic computer knowledge with each survey taking approximately 6-7 minutes to enter. Typing skills need not be proficient but enough to find your way around a computer keyboard comfortably. Volunteers can work anytime during the workweek through the end of February. If you have one hour, three hours or the whole day, JFCS can use your help. Please call Shelley Kahn for more info at 452-6341, ext. 103.

Anonymous Help Phone Line
The Klempner Center provides preventative educational programs for children and teens and community educational seminars and workshops on topics related to addictions. An anonymous phone line has been established for the Jewish community that is answered by a Jewish person in a 12-step recovery program. This person will direct you to a program that provides help. Call 727-9287 and leave a message. Your phone call will be returned quickly, and you can get help for yourself or a loved one. Jews in the community do have problems with alcoholism, drug abuse, overeating, gambling and other addictions. Jews in the community also are members of 12-step recovery programs. To get help, call the number above.

Job Seekers Resource Group
The Job Seekers Resource Group will meet Mondays through February 21, from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Participants can learn basic job search skills from an experienced career advisor. There is a $10 one-time materials fee. For more information contact Andrea Wehrley at ext. 334.

A.C.T. Preparation Workshop
A.C.T. Preparation Workshop classes will meet Mondays and Tuesdays, February 14–March 8 for eight sessions from 7-9 p.m. at Jewish Family and Career Services (JFCS). The workshop fee is $170 and includes two textbooks. For more information and to register, call Janet Poole at ext. 222.

Caregiver Support Groups
Caregiver support groups help adult children of aging parents learn about community resources and ways to balance their needs with those of aging relatives. One group meets at JFCS every fourth Thursday at 7 p.m. Contact Mauri Malka at ext. 250.

Diabetes Support Group
Individuals with diabetes can talk about living with this chronic condition and share the ways they cope. The Diabetes Support Group meets the third Monday of each month at 1:30 p.m.

Grandparent/Relative Caregiver Resource Groups
A support group for anyone raising grandchildren or other relatives meets at JFCS, every third Monday at 2 p.m. Call Jo Ann Kalb at ext. 335 to RSVP or if you need further information.
