Migrating up from the South in the 1800s, itinerant Jewish peddlers and trades people made their way to Louisville, settled there and created a network of religious, social service, health, cultural and educational institutions. In 2009, the Jewish Community Federation of Louisville and the JCC of Louisville merged to form the Jewish Community of Louisville, an integrated agency that serves as a central address for the social, cultural and philanthropic activities of its Jewish community of 8,500 and the broader Louisville community. The JCL operates with a single board, budget and staff and is a member of both the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) and the Jewish Community Centers Association (JCCA). Additional JCL operations include administering the Jewish Foundation of Louisville, the Jewish Community Relations Council, Hillel, BBYO and a Jewish community newspaper.
The CEO seeks a dynamic and creative Chief Development Officer (CDO) with proven philanthropic skills to join his cabinet and help deliver on his vision of creating a sustainable, vibrant and welcoming Jewish community for generations to come. The candidate must be able to inspire confidence and trust from Louisville’s Jewish community, helping donors fulfill their philanthropic goals with the knowledge that their contributions are stewarded with the highest degree of professionalism and efficiency.
The CDO will report to the CEO, oversee a staff of direct and matrixed reports and an administrative assistant and be responsible for all philanthropic activities in the JCL Strategic Plan.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide vision for the Jewish Federation of Louisville Annual Campaign through clear positive messages about the current state and future of the community, execute the annual campaign calendar, organize all events and regularly communicate status.
- Develop strategies for cultivating relationships with supporters of the JCL to encourage after life and next generation giving to the Jewish Foundation of Louisville.
- Recruit volunteers, train them and plan succession.
- Develop and steward positive relationships with outside funding sources including government, foundations, and corporations.
- Manage the donor database (recently updated to Abila Millennium), researching trends, conducting gap analyses and developing strategies to reach untapped potential donors.
- Remain current in e-philanthropy trends and other related technological advances and utilize them where beneficial to community development.
- Prepare for a future capital campaign to revamp the current JCC building.
- Lead supplemental giving campaigns for JFNA initiatives and for the JCL’s internal needs.

Advertising Sales/ Sponsorship Manager
The Jewish Community of Louisville, a non-profit organization, is looking for a full-time Ad Sales and Sponsorship Manager. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who enjoys finding creative, mutually beneficial relationships with other businesses. A successful candidate will sell advertising for Community, Louisville’s Jewish newspaper, e-letter sponsorships for the Community Weekly Update and JCC Weekly E-News, the Guide to Jewish Louisville and other advertising vehicles. The ideal candidate will also take an active role in soliciting new sponsorships to support Federation and JCC programs and facilities.
• Sell advertising for Community, the Guide to Jewish Louisville, eletters, building banners and other opportunities that should arise.
• Sell sponsorships for the JCC and Federation. Sponsorships may be for events, teams, equipment, etc. and will be developed with guidance from the Chief Development Officer and/or other staff.
• Balance responsibilities so ad sales goals for Community and the Guide are met and sponsorships increase.
• Ensure contracts are complete, signed and turned in for processing on time.
• Get all necessary information to the production staff by deadline.
• Check all ads for accuracy.

J-Play Youth Worker
The Jewish Community Center is looking for experienced, nurturing staff to work in the drop in babysitting (J-Play) program, which has children aged birth-age 10. Hours are: Monday-Friday- 8:30 a.m.-Noon and 5-8 p.m. (except Friday) and Sunday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (Not all shifts are available).

Internships at the JCL
The Jewish Community of Louisville internship program welcomes students and recent graduates who wish to supplement their education and professional experience by working in a not-for-proﬁt organization. JCL internships offer experiential education in a challenging, hands-on environment in exchange for a substantive contribution from gifted and interested individuals.
The JCL was created in 2009 through the merger of the Jewish Community Center and the Jewish Community
Federation. It is the central organization of the Jewish community in the Louisville metropolitan area. JCL interns will have the opportunity to work with both the fundraising and development and the programming sides of the organization.
The JCL is umbrella fundraising organization for the Jewish community. Through the annual Federation
Campaign, the JCL raises more than 2.5 million dollars for Jewish organizations in Louisville and around the world. The JCL also provides leadership development, community planning and public relations for the Jewish community in Louisville, and publishes Community, a monthly newspaper.
The Jewish Community Center is the programming arm of the JCL. The JCC is a human service agency committed to enhancing the quality of family life and promoting the physical, intellectual and spiritual wellness of the individual. It provides health-related activities, cultural and educational programs that serve the community at large, including populations at risk. Membership and services are offered to the Jewish and general community.
There are three application deadlines and selection periods per year. Internships require a minimum
commitment of 20 hours per week for three months, during which time interns complete a speciﬁc project as well as daily assignments. Interns also participate in departmental meetings, special events, and various educational programs, as well as attend JCL events.

Graphic Design/Social Media Internship
The JCL Graphic Design Intern will assist with the creation of internal and external marketing and program materials. Projects may include but are not limited to; designing logo and posters, creating new and updating website pages, designing advertisements and other design projects on an as-needed basis. Interns will need to be very proficient with the Adobe Creative Suite. Adobe Dreamweaver, Joomla or Adobe Premiere experience a plus. Interns must have completed at least one year of college to apply.
The JCL Community/Marketing Intern will help prepare Community on a monthly basis. Duties will include but are not limited to story research and writing, taking photos and working with archive materials. Interns will also write press releases and handle media requests. Interns will need a background in newspaper writing and Microsoft Office experience. Photo experience a plus. Interns will also complete other Marketing functions as needed. Interns must have completed at least one year of college to apply.
