JUNE

Lego Space Adventures

Grades 2-5   June 6-10   Tier B

Join us on an adventurous journey through space! Build the Redstone Rocket to blast through the atmosphere into a realm that is truly out of this world. Travel back in time to build NASA’s Gemini Capsule. Trust your astronaut’s building skills to pilot a spacecraft that will bring you back to Earth safely. We’ll build models that represent spacecraft from your favorite popular space movie. Come experience this stellar journey through space!

Cosmic Cup-4 Kicks For Kidz

Grades 1-3   June 6-10   Tier A

Join the first soccer Cosmic Cup at the JCC! Our week long soccer camp will culminate in a friendly tournament on Friday morning.  We will create 4 teams, mixing players up so that each team has a similar skill level. The team that has the highest score at the end of the Friday morning session will receive the Cosmic Cup. All players will receive a participation medal. Families are invited to the Friday morning tournament session and to the award ceremony and, of course, stay for lunch. The cosmic cup and the team pictures will be showcased at the J all year around. Our daily training will focus on the following: mobility (gross motor skills development and developmental movement patterns, such as squatting, hopping, running and  homo-lateral and contra-lateral crawling);  stability (balance exercises on the ground and on the soccer ball to trigger core support in the torso); Foot skills (stopping and trapping a moving ball,  kicking  with instep to a fixed and moving target,  basic dribbling and aiming at a moving target, dribbling and team-building with a focus on analysis of a problem, creative solutions, and socio-emotional development.

Your imagination will run wild as we pull back the curtain and unveil the magic of technical theatre.  From scenery to lighting, sewing to painting, costuming to crafting: each day will be spent learning basic theatrical design concepts  through a multitude of hands on activities and projects as well as workshops with professional artists, including creating your own designs and backdrops for our Spotlight Youth Musical Theatre summer camp productions.   Some activities will include scenic model building, mask making, scene painting, basic sewing and rendering.

Astronaut Training-Nutty Scientists

We will put the trainees through astronaut training which will include some very Nutty and fun activities.  Kids will learn about gravity, space, force, rockets and even those fine motor skills that astronauts need to learn.

Lego Mining and Crafting

Grades 4-6 • June 13-17  Tier B

Experience the world of Minecraft with LEGO® bricks, a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. Campers will start by crafting their shelters to keep out monsters and some of the mobs, critters and tools. Students will face new challenges each day, building motorized Bricks 4 Kidz models and crafting key elements (with LEGO® bricks) from the Minecraft game.

Superhero Science-Nutty Scientists

In this week of camp we will turn the campers into superheros for the enviroment.   They will use their superhero powers to explore topics like tide changes, weather, planets, waste reduction, recycling and other topics which can help us save our planet.

Lego Super Bots Robotics

The hottest selling LEGO® Mindstorm combines classic LEGO® building with the world of robotics, using motors, sensors and software. You’ll learn how to design and program your LEGO® ‘bots to perform all kinds of tasks! This is for the advanced LEGO® enthusiast!

Triton Trophy-4Kicks For Kidz

Come spend the week with us exploring many forms of art as we study the element and principles of art. We will draw, paint, glue, form clay, sculpt and weave. Our week will also include a trip to a local art museum to explore art in our city. The week will be completed with an art show to display our beautiful creations from the week.

SPOTLIGHT YOUTH MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP-2 WEEKS

SWAMPED!

Grades 1-3      June 20-July 1   Tier C

The swamp is all a buzz with party preparations galore and you’re invited.  Naturally the turtles are late and Bully Bullfrog is being bully.  Spend two weeks partying with us in the swamp where you will learn to sing, dance, and act all culminating in a “swamptastic” performance.  This “ribbiting” show based on themes of friendship, tolerance and courage features five original songs, rhyming dialogue and over forty speaking roles.  And if that is not enough, you get to swim with the tadpoles every day!

Turf & Surf

Did you ever think you would learn to play water polo and Frisbee golf at camp? Now you can, along with other non-traditional sports and games.  Take a water aerobics class, join in a marbles championship and race home-made boats in the pool!

Lego Amusement Park Mania

Camp takes familiar amusement park rides that kids love and turns them into exciting model builds! Spend a day experiencing the Wizard World with your favorite wizard and soar through the sky with a magical owl! Give your despicable yellow munchkins a thrilling roller coaster ride! Get your amusement park ticket stamped as you complete a variety of fun model builds with games, food, rides and attractions. All this and more awaits at Bricks 4 Kidz Worlds of Amusement Camp!

Lego Jurassic Brick Land

Grades 4-7   June 27-July 1   Tier B

Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Put on your hiking boots and camouflage…you’re about to enter Jurassic Brick Land! Campers will build a world that comes to life with gentle Brontosaurus, ferocious Velociraptor, terrifying T. Rex, and more. We’ll learn about amazing dinosaurs that lived during the Jurassic period, and other extinct, prehistoric animals that roamed the earth and swam the seas during that era and millions of years later. Show us your building skills using our specialized project kits. Come learn, build and play at Jurassic Brick Land camp.

Wiley Brown Basketball

Grades 1-3 • June 27-July 1  Tier B

Learn the fundamental skills of basketball such as ball handling, shooting, offensive and defensive drills. In addition, each camper will have an individual evaluation by the coaches to help understand what he or she can do to improve throughout the year. The week will culminate with a ceremony on Friday.

Introduction to Scuba

Grades 4-9  June 27-July 1  Tier B

Learn the scuba basics in one week and practice in our pool. Includes scuba gear to use during the class.  Learn in our family pool complex.  Safety tips, videos, practice and more. Traditional camp activities every afternoon.

*LEGO  NINJA BRICK TURTLES

Grades 1-3 • July 4-8  Tier B

Grab your katanas and nunchucks as we prepare to fight crime with the Teenage Brick Turtles! Practice engineering as you build two of the courageous turtles and their wise Japanese rat sensei, Master Splinter. Strengthen your ninjutsu skills to defeat the villainous Shredder and his evil Foot Clan. After a treacherous day of crime-fighting, don’t forget to give the turtles a break to enjoy pizza down in their sewer dwelling under the city. Let’s build and play….Brick Turtle style!

FREDDIE THE FROG AND THE JUNGLE JAZZ

Grades 3-6      July 4-15  Tier C

Join trumpet playing elephants, trombone sliding tigers, clarinet playing monkeys and a flock of seagulls asn they sing, swing, and improvise in this Hot-cha-cha show.  Featuring five original songs, jazzy dialogue and over twenty speaking parts, this unique musicals final performance will have everyone tappin’ their toes, dancin’ in the aisles and swingin’ from the trees “N’awlins Style.” Complete your jazzy, jungle jaunt each day by going for a dip in the local watering hole.

Every Agent needs; an id card, passport, interrogation practice, to encrypt secret messages, to be a master of disguise, target practice,  to beat the laser obstacle course and to try to solve the ghostly case of The Haunted Amusement Park.  The final mission is to solve The League of Good Guys Murder Mystery.

*ART EXPLORATION

Grades 1-3 • July 4-8  Tier A

When we say exploration, we mean atypical!  Paint with food, sculpt with home-made ‘clay’, make puffy paint from shaving cream, art with a twist.  The week will culminate with an art show on Friday.

COOKING BREAD, BREAD AND MORE BREAD

Every Day Fresh With Chef Gina

If your children have a passion for cooking or love to help you prepare meals in the kitchen, then perhaps a cooking camp is the perfect summer camp for them. Culinary camp is a great choice for kids who not only have a passion for food but also for those who just want to learn more. Cooking camps will encourage a child’s creativity and expression through the use of new skills and tools that will eventually allow them to master great dishes. Children in this week’s camp will learn how to make many types of bread.

Each day we learn about different types of bread and make a snack with the bread. Who knew learning could be so yummy!

Learning Skills: Children will learn about exotic ingredients and spices, food safety and preparation, knife skills, recipe building and myriad cooking techniques.

Each child will receive: A book, a chef’s toque (hat), apron and a recipe booklet

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Think, Pink. Enjoy a week of exciting activities such as Dance, Art and Drama. Fashion shows, selfies, manis, pedis and more. Each day will have a different activity. The week will culminate with a surprise field trip in a limousine on Friday.

Scuba Open Water Certification

Grades 4-9   July 11-15 + Sunday 17  Tier D 

Junior Open Water Certification (4-9 Grade, child must be age 10+ to receive certification) in a week by doing classroom and pool work Monday-Friday 10-3 (½  day classroom, ½ day pool work) and then open water dives that Sunday at Falling Rock Park (rock quarry in LaGrange). Open dive requires family transportation.

Crazy Holidaze

Grades 1-4  July 11-15   Tier A

Learn about Cheer up the Lonely, Paper Bag, National French Fry, Shark Awareness and Cow Appreciation Days! Each day brings a new odd holiday to learn about and participate in!

Lego Remote Control Mania

Grades 3-6   July 18-22   Tier B

Making it move is the name of the game at this exciting camp! Kids will love to see their creations in motion using wireless remote controls. Each day, campers will use fascinating and challenging bricks to create dynamic vehicles, inventions, machines and more. As they enjoy the fun of building, campers will understand the basic working principles of many ingenious devices that are part of our everyday lives. Campers will also learn how to magnify, diminish and redirect force to move objects at different speeds and in different directions. This camp is loads of fun and learning for budding builders.

Pirates 2: The Hidden Treasure

Grades 4-8      July 18-29   Tier C

“Argh” you ready to seek adventure and treasure on the high seas?  Your favorite Pirates are back and find themselves shipwrecked on a deserted island…or is it?  Will the King of the High “C’s” have a plan to save the day?  Through the course of their musical adventures, the pirates discover that real treasure is something they have plenty of…friendship and family.  Designed for upper elementary and middle school, this musical features six original songs and a witty script with over twenty speaking parts. After singing and dancing in the sand all day, you will “Yo Ho Ho” with joy after a refreshing paddle in the lagoon.

Ninja Warrior Training

Grades 1-8 • July 18-22  Tier B

Monday through Thursday campers will participate in age appropriate training sessions, culminating in an obstacle course race on Friday. The training sessions will incorporate balance, core, speed, strength, endurance, flexibility and injury prevention lessons to prepare the ultimate fit kid for our Mighty Titan Youth Obstacle Course.

This will be a truly unique science/art camp.   We will explore concepts of refraction and reflection, blending colors to make various colors and so much more.  During this camp we will even discover how to make our own rainbow and catch them in a jar.   Each day will include some really Nutty Science and various mediums of art.

Cooking in Israel

Every Day Fresh With Chef Gina

Each day we’ll bake traditional breads or desserts from Israel. Some examples include: challah, khachapuri, kanafeh, rugelach, baklava, or babka. We will learn about the history of each product.

Hikes, nature arts & crafts, reading a compass, following maps and more!

Secret Agent School

Grades 1-3  July 25-29  Tier A

Every Agent needs;  an id card, passport, interrogation practice, to encrypt secret messages, to be a master of disguise, target practice, and to beat the laser obstacle course in order to complete the final mission: solving the Perplexing Case of the Pilfered Pooch.

Fantasyland STEM-Nutty Scientists

Education + Fun = Nutty Scientists. The Nutty Scientists will enter the pages of some very famous fairy tales to overcome some amazing obstacles using science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (otherwise referred to as STEM).  We will use art, theater, science, and a lot of inspiration to spark the campers imagination.  On our week long journey into various fairytales we may save Humpty Dumpty from falling, design our own bridges to withstand the trolls, find our reflection in the magic mirror, build towers and so much more.  This camp will be full of new STEM challenges each day.  This will be the most exciting camp of the summer.
