JCC Summer Campers to Participate in Caring and Sharing Week

LOUISVILLE, KY (July 19, 2011) – The week of July 23nd is the 3nd annual Caring and Sharing Week at the Jewish Community Center’s Summer Camps. This year, campers aged 20 months through 8th grade will raise money and complete projects to benefit the Jewish Family and Career Services (JFCS) Food Pantry.

Campers will raise money in several ways including a Swim-a-thon and Dance-a-thon on Tuesday and Wednesday. The kids will swim and dance their way to help feed those in need. “It is important to teach children at a very early age to help others,” says JCC Summer Camp Director Julie Hollander. “We are leading by example in a very hands on and fun way.”

Campers will also raise money with car washes, bake sales and a lemonade stand on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Some will even serenade members of the JCC as a traveling Mariachi band.  and a traveling Mariachi band.

The week will culminate with a check presentation ceremony to JFCS on Friday, July 22nd at 9:15 a.m. at the Jewish Community Center. JCC Summer Camp also collects can goods every Thursday for JFCS and is tending a garden, which will provide fresh vegetables for the Food Pantry in the fall.

This is the third year in a row the JCC Summer Camp is supporting the Jewish Family and Career Services Food Pantry. Last year the campers raised more than $1000.
