Honor Your Ancestors at MOSAIC Event

Jewish Family and Career Services will host the fifth annual MOSIAC Awards – A Salute to New Americans, on Thursday, April 15, at 5:30 p.m. in the ballroom at the Henry Clay Hotel. The high profile event recognizes immigrants and refugees who have made a significant contribution in their profession and in our community.

 

Tim Mulloy, founder and CEO of Peritus Public Relations, is the honorary chairman of the event, and Djenita Pasic, a 2008 MOSAIC honoree, is the event chairperson. Jewish Hospital and St. Mary’s HealthCare and WLKY are the lead sponsors. Proceeds from this event will benefit Jewish Family and Career Services.

The 2010 honorees are:

  • Gabriele Weber Bosley from Germany, who is the director of International Programs and professor of Global Languages and Cultures at Bellarmine University;
  • Khalid A. Kahloon from Pakistan, who is a special assistant United States attorney for the Western District of Kentucky;
  • Dr. Mirzada Kurbasic from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who is a professor of pediatrics at the University of Louisville;
  • Mark McCallum from Australia, who is vice president and COO of Brown-Forman; and
  • Adolfo (Ben) Ruiz III from Mexico, who is founder and principal partner of Adhawks Advertising.

Additionally, families can honor their ancestors who immigrants, and were among the first generation of Jewish individuals who helped establish the Jewish community through a Family Tribute Sponsorship. JFCS will recognize those individuals at the event.

“This idea came from the event committee, many of whom had ancestors who were refugees and immigrants when they came to Louisville,” commented Judy Freundlich Tiell, JFCS Executive Director. “We think it’s a great opportunity to spotlight those newcomers from the past in the context of highlighting New Americans today.”

Patrons will receive two tickets to the MOSAIC Awards, and a tribute will be made of their honored family member, which will be a part of a permanent memorial at the Roth Family Center. The tributes also will be a part of the video presentation the evening of the awards ceremony. Patron Sponsorships are $500.

Family Tributes have been made for Joseph and Anna Bass, Myer and Ester Berman, Albert and Rose Mash Robinson, Emil and Augusta Kramm Klempner, Max and Annie Shapira, Boris and Naomi Pressma, Rebecca Bass Bierman, Samuel Weisberg, Kucil Rosenstein, Shalom and Sarah Feige Goldberg, Marcus and Mali Schachter Spector, Harry and Lena Goodman Shapiro, Gabe and Marjorie Van Damm Belker, David and Evelyn Levy Van Damm, Barnett and Sadie Cohen Levy and George and Mariam Blue and the Hirsch Family.

Individual tickets are $100 per person, and numerous levels of sponsorships are available to individuals and businesses.
