Shabbaton With Rabbi Susan Silverman

Yes, Rabbi Susan Silverman is the sister of comedian, Sarah Silverman! Susan Silverman grew up with parents who were atheists. Yet, as a young adult, she shocked everyone who knew her and became a reform rabbi. She is also an author, activist and adoptive mom. She has recently written a book called “Casting Lots” about her decision to adopt two sons from an Ethiopian orphanage. Additionally, she is on the Board of Directors of “Women of the Wall,” a group working to attain social and legal recognition of women’s rights to wear prayer shawls, pray, and read from the Torah, collectively and aloud, at the Western Wall.
Rabbi Silverman will be speaking at Adath Jeshurun, 2401 Woodbourne Ave, 40205.
Friday, March 17
5:45 p.m. – Kabbalat Shabbat Service
6:45 p.m. – Kiddush Supper (Reservations are required – Adults/$12, Kids under 12 eat free! Reservation deadline is March 10. See below to register)
7:30 p.m. – Rabbi Silverman will speak on “Women of the Wall”

Saturday, March 18
9:30 a.m. – Shabbat Service. Rabbi Silverman will present the D’var Torah on “What it Means to be Jewish.”
11:30 a.m. – Kiddush Luncheon
12:15 p.m. – Rabbi Silverman will serve as Shabbat Scholar, and will speak on her experience with adoption.

Signed copies of “Casting Lots” can be preordered before March 6 for $24.99 below. The books will be available for pickup at Adath Jeshurun on March 17 and 18.
