Global Day of Learning partnering with Melton at AJ

November 16, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Louisville Melton will be participating in the Florence Melton School’s introduction of a new four-part course, Zakhor: Transmitting History through the Medium of Memory. The introductory lesson entitled “Amalek: Remembering the Arch-Enemy of the Jewish People” was developed by the Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning, under the guidance of Rabbi Morey Schwartz, Director of Education.

The biblical instruction to remember does not demand of the Jewish nation to merely preserve information about a bitter historical moment. Preserving the memory of our arch-enemy Amalek places that incident at the beginning of a time trajectory that offers hope for a better tomorrow. This specially designed Melton text-based lesson focuses on the linear dimensions of the Jewish responsibility to remember the attack of Amalek against the Jewish nation just a short time after leaving Egypt, as well as considering the short term and long term relevance of this instruction in all generations.

This introductory lesson will be presented today from 10:00 am – 12:00 am at Adath Jeshurun, 2401 Woodbourne Avenue, Louisville, KY 40205. For additional information, please contact Deborah Slosberg, Director Louisville Melton, at 502-458-5359 or dslosberg@adathjeshurun.com

This session is presented in partnership with the Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning.
