Gendler Grapevine Fresh Stop Market

The Gendler Grapevine Fresh Stop Market at The J is an exciting new project that will address food justice and food insecurity in The J’s neighborhood. Fresh Stop Markets, run by New Roots, allow shareholders to sign up for a biweekly share of ten types of local, organic produce sourced from a network of over 50 Kentuckiana farms. The shares are ordered in advance so that community organizers can ensure fair prices for the farmers, and they are available on a sliding scale–$6 for families on WIC, $12 for those with limited resources, and $25 for all others—that allows everybody to receive access to the same kinds of healthy food. Each Fresh Stop Market is run by local volunteer shareholders and includes food samples as well as information about the produce including recipes, storage, and nutritional value.
The Gendler Grapevine Fresh Stop Market is the first Fresh Stop Market in the east end of Louisville. It is an interfaith effort, including partnerships with Southeast Associated Ministries and Guiding Light Islamic Center, and is sponsored in part by a grant from the Gendler Grapevine Foundation, which funds projects related to Jewish environmentalism and interfaith projects. Everyone is welcome to sign up for a share here. The first market will be Wednesday, September 7 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and every other Wednesday after that.
