Edith Kling, wife of the late Rabbi Simcha Kling, beloved long-time spiritual leader of Congregation Adath Jeshurun, passed away in Newton, MA on Tuesday, April 12. Long remembered as a gifted educator, she taught at the Adath Jeshurun Religious School, the High School of Jewish Studies and Louisville Hebrew School for more than 20 years. After her husband died, she began delivering a dvar torah between mincha and maariv, often using material gathered from her husband’s teachings. She also served as president of the Shalom Tower Board.
“Had Edith been born in a different era, there is no doubt in my mind she would have been a beloved rabbi, says Adath Jeshurun’s Rabbi Robert Slosberg. “She and Simcha were more than husband and wife – they were true life-partners. Her love and devotion to him were beautiful to behold.”
Survivors include daughters Elana Kling (Rabbi Carl) Perkins; Adina Kling (Judah Levine) and Reena Kling; grandchildren Leora, Jeremy, Dov, Eitan and Lev; brothers Rabbi Saul (Elsie) Leeman and Rabbi Al (Lil) Leeman; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held in Needham, MA. Remembrances may be made to Friends of Yad LaKashish, Lifeline for the Old (Jerusalem), P.O. Box 494, Englewood, NJ 07631; Temple Aliyah, Needham; or Havurat Shalom, 113 College Avenue, Somerville, MA 02144.
