Drinks & Drawing Event Was an Evening of Creative Fun

Over 30 women came to Wild Eggs in Westport Village on Thursday, November 1 to express their creativity and enjoy the company of friends at Drinks and Drawing, sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Louisville’s Women’s Philanthropy division.

The evening included an array of appetizers, specialty cocktails compliments of Heaven Hill Distilleries, and the opportunity to create an original painting based on a sample provided by Kentucky Art Speaks and guided by gallery owner Tonya R. Smith.

Event co-chair Kim Schwartz welcomed everyone and acknowledged her co-chair, Shannon Rothschild, and the event hosts, Caren Bailen, Shellie Branson, Hilary Catapano, Faina Kronenberg, Amy Lapinski, Kate Latts and Sara Ruby. Then she introduced Smith, and the fun began.

Participant started with blank canvass and were instructed to use pencils to sketch a tree, copying a painting Smith had created earlier. The artist then gave step-by-step instructions, and gradually the art came to life. While everyone started with black, white and yellow paint for the background and the tree trunk and branches, each canvass soon took on its own characteristics.

Participants were allowed to choose their own colors for the remainder of the painting, so the end result was a forest of similar but distinctive trees that the women took home.

While this evening was primarily social, 2013 Federation Campaign Chair Karen Abrams also spoke briefly to the group reminding them of the importance of the Campaign to the community.

Women’s Philanthropy Director Tzivia Levin Kalmes staffed the event.
