Curtains Rise for Murder Mystery at CenterStage
LOUISVILLE, KY (February 28, 2012) – As “Robbin’ Hood” ends, the aging and totally untalented diva Jessica Cranshaw takes her bows and collapses. When it is determined that she was murdered, Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, who was in the audience, sets out to unravel the mystery. Don’t miss the regional premier of Curtains at CenterStage March 16-April 1 at the Jewish Community Center. This side splitting, Tony-nominated, Rupert Holmes show is filled with twists and turns, romance, murder plots and intrigue, interlaced with the music of John Kander and Fred Ebb (Cabaret, Chicago, New York, New York) in their final theatrical collaboration.
Can you identify the murder before Lt. Frank Cioffi (Pete Lay) does? What exactly is producer Carmen Bernstein (Carol Dines) up to and is she in cahoots with the divorced songwriting team Aaron Fox (Jeremy Moon) and Georgia Hendricks (Lauren Maxwell)? Who’s in love with whom – or are they just playing a game? Who gets the lead following Jessica’s (Mandy Kramer) death? What must be done to the “Robbin Hood” to overcome the negative reviews and bring it to Broadway? How was the murder accomplished in full sight of the audience and cast? And, of course, whodunit?
This cast of Curtains is a mix of CenterStage veterans as well as new faces and talents. Pete Lay will tread the boards as the musical theatre loving, Lt. Cioffi (made famous by David Hyde Peirce who won a Tony for his performance in this role). You may remember Pete from Cabaret (Emcee), Oklahoma (Curly), and Forever Plaid. Carol Dines also returns as the money hungry producer, Carmen Bernstein. CenterStage favorite, Jeremy Moon will play the lovelorn song writer, Aaron Fox. Jeremy may be remembered from Last 5 Years (Jamie), Brigadoon (Charlie), Parade (Leo Frank) and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Joseph) to name a few. Newcomers Lauren Maxwell (Music Man/ Marian) and Mera Kathryn Corlett (The Fantasticks/ Louisa) will round out the principals.
“Curtains is a hilarious contemporary musical that pays tribute to the classic musical of the 1940’s and 50’s,” says CenterStage Artistic Director John Leffert. “The music and lyrics are witty, clever and memorable. Audiences will leave this show with a smile that won’t stop!”
CenterStage will present Curtains Thursday, March 15; Saturday, March 17; Thursday, March 22; Saturday, March 24; Monday, March 26; Thursday, March 29; and Saturday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sundays, March 18, 25 and April 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 per person. Based on availability, there will be 20 $10 rush tickets sold for weeknight performances.
