The Annual Community Hunger Walk on Sunday, September 19, will start at Waterfront Park. Registration for the 5K walk/run and the Hunger Walk Festival begins at 12:30 and the walk/run will start at 2:15.
Participants are encouraged to register online at www.thehungerwalk.org or to complete a registration form and mail it to The Hunger Walk, Dare to Care Food Bank, P.O. Box 35458, Louisville, KY 40232.
Registration forms are also available at the Jewish Community of Louisville offices and at local synagogues.
For adults, the registration fee is $25 before September 14, or $35 from October 15-19. For youths (18 and under), the fee is $15 before October 14 or $25 after. Additional donations are welcome.
This year, the first place overall male and female runners and the first place overall walker will win a pair of running or walking shoes from Pacers & Racers.
There will also be awards for the top three male and female runners and walkers in each age group (14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 49-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, and 65+), as well as awards for the top online team and individual fundraiser. Door prizes will be given, too.
The awards will be presented at a special ceremony at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds from the 2010 Hunger Walk will go to the Dare to Care Food Bank, which provides nutritious food, including produce, to over 100,000 people in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The remaining 25 percent will go to the World Food Program, the world’s leading international hunger relief agency.
Dare to Care and Interfaith Paths to Peace are the Hunger Walk’s organizers. The title sponsor is Aramark. Major sponsors are Chad Kamen’s Team Food Chain, Yum!, Kroger, Fifth Third Bank and WHAS11.
