Chabad Purim Celebration Draws Over 225 Community Members

Chabad of Kentucky marked its 25th anniversary in the state on Sunday, February 28, with their annual Purim feast and celebration, which drew attendees from every synagogue and temple in Louisville as well as students from the Day School, the Hebrew School and Hillel. There were children as young as nine weeks and seniors over 90 years old and all enjoyed the celebration.

In keeping with the theme of the evening, “Purim in the Orient,” there were delicacies from across Asia, an audio/visual presentation of Japanese actors singing Fiddler on the Roof in Japanese, live Jewish music and Vietnamese dancers sharing blessings of joy and good fortune. The evening was marked with much singing and dancing and celebrating the joy of being Jewish.

As Chabad celebrates its 25th year, they currently offer at least 25 community wide programs within Louisville. Goldie Litvin leads at least 10 monthly programs for women called Neshei and Rabbi Avrohom Litvin teaches at least 10 lunch and learn programs at the Louisville Hyatt Regency hotel. Chabad also sponsors programs for Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, Chanukah, and Purim.

Through the next year, Chabad has pledged an additional 25 community programs including 10 Kabbalah classes taught by Goldie Litvin, 10 Bible classes taught by Rabbi Litvin, and five additional community-wide programs to mark Lag B’Omer, Gan Israel Day Camp, a Shofar Factory, a Matza Bakery, and an additional series of community Menorah lightings on Chanukah.

For more information or to register for any of the upcoming classes or programs call Chabad at 235-5770.
