Congregation Adath Jeshurun invites the community to its Membership Appreciation Event and dedication of the new Charles and Jean K. Erskine Auditorium on Sunday, November 22, at 7 p.m. The Erskines were beloved members of the congregation whose generosity allowed for renovation of the auditorium and for the creation of a lecture series to bring noted speakers to Louisville.

“Jean and Charles Erskine were active members and regular Shabbat service attendees at AJ,” said Rabbi Robert Slosberg. “I know having our large auditorium bear their names is a tribute that would have thrilled them.”

In addition to the dedication and “Jemmy” (Jewish Emmy) Awards presentation, the congregation will recognize Ed Born-stein for spearheading the renovation effort.

At 7:30, concert pianist Stanley Yerlow will perform some of the music that has brought him acclaim over the past two decades. Called “truly spectacular” by the Athens Daily News and “Refreshingly different from other performers” in the Savannah Evening Press, Yerlow has played at many prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the Merkin Concert Hall at Lincoln Center, the Museum of the City of New York and the Norton Series in West Palm Beach, FL.

A Steinway Artist, he has performed and lectured throughout the continental United States, Europe and the Middle East. He is musical director for Kelly Ripa and Regis Philbin (whom he taught to play the piano) and has been featured in several publications including a photo feature in The New York Times.

Rabbi Slosberg, who was instrumental in bringing Yerlow to Louisville for the evening, calls him “a consummate entertainer – one of the most gifted pianists I have ever heard.”

A dessert reception and the opportunity to meet the artist will follow the concert. The evening is free of charge, but reservations are requested. Contact AJ at 458-5359 by November 13 for reservations.
