Annual Intergenerational Interfaith Model Seder Honors Judith Bensinger

On March 17, the Jewish Community of Louisville’s Senior Adult Department at the Jewish Community Center held their Annual Intergenerational lnterfaith Model Seder. About 20 Hebrew School students joined Cantor Sharon Hordes and 45 seniors and their guests for the reading of the Haggadah followed by a full dinner catered by Café J’s Joyce Craig. Everyone who attended the event expressed their appreciation for this meaningful program.

The Model Seder has been a long-standing program at the JCC for many years. In 2008 this program was specifically dedicated to the memory of one of a treasured member, Judith Bensinger. For many years, Bensinger not only attended the Senior Adult programs, but she was an active volunteer.

One of the programs she loved the most was the Model Seder. When staff members Diane Sadle and Slava Nedelin shared the idea of commemorating Bensinger by naming the program for her, Bensinger’s children, Margot Barr and Carl Bensinger, were so pleased that they and other family members decided to sponsor the Seder and and established a special fund in Judith Bensinger’s name to perpetuate the intergenerational Seder.

On behalf of all who attended this program, the Senior Adult Department would like to thank Margot, Carl and the extended Bensinger family for keeping this Jewish tradition alive through their continuing support of the intergenerational Seder.
