American Idol Underground Winner Beth Schafer Headlines AJ Music Fest

Recording artist Beth Schafer, the 2006 American Idol Faith-Based Underground winner, will perform on Sunday, March 18, at 7 p.m. in the main sanctuary at Louisville’s Congregation Adath Jeshurun as part of its 41st annual Music Festival.

Specializing in guitar-driven songs, Schafer’s sound has been described as inspirational acoustic folk/rock music. For a sampling of her music, visit www.bethschafer.com.

American Idol Underground is one of the many awards Beth has received for her poignant songwriting.

She has also won or placed in the National Indie Songwriting competition, Indie Girl Songwriting competition, Song-of-the-Month at Songwriter Universe, and radio competitions in the secular market. Beth’s original works have brought her to half-court to perform for the Orlando Magic and on the campaign trail to perform for President Barack Obama. Her music speaks to anyone on a spiritual journey.

“If you close your eyes, you might think you’re listening to Bonnie Raitt singing Jewish music combined with Eagles’ harmonies,” said Adath Jeshurun’s Cantor David Lipp. “Beth Schafer is as inspirational a singer as I’ve heard in the Jewish folk/rock genre,” added Lipp. “She stands on the shoulders of Debbie Friedman, may her memory be for a blessing. The AJ Music Festival is overjoyed to have her as our 41st guest of honor.”

Others in the program include Cantor Lipp and Cantor Sharon Hordes of Keneseth Israel, who will perform in the same Jewish folk/rock style as Schafer. In addition, Rabbi Gaylia Rooks of The Temple will be performing as well as the combined Junior and Adult Choirs composed of singers from local synagogues.

Tickets are $12.50 in advance, $15 at the door. Seniors and students’ tickets are $10. Tickets may be purchased online at www.adathjeshurun.com/get-involved/musicfestival/. Those purchasing online may print their own tickets; others may pick up tickets at will-call the evening of the concert. Tickets will not be mailed.

Sponsorships are available and include preferred seating, name in printed program, and a tax-deductible donation as allowed by law. For more information, visit the website listed above or call 458‑5359.

This will be the 10th consecutive year the AJ Music Festival is underwritten by the Adolf and Sara van der Walde and Israel Rosenbloum Charitable Fund.
