When it comes to bring first-rate speakers to the community, New York City’s 92nd Street Y is the best, so when Adath Jeshurun’s Vision Committee decided to do something to benefit the entire community, they arranged to bring three live 92nd Street Y lectures to Louisville and open them up to the entire community.

Those who were able to attend the first program heard Nobel prize-winning economist Paul Krugman and Emmy award-winning journalist Charlie Rose discuss how the current economic crisis parallels the Great Depression and how the United States can prevent a complete economic catastrophe.

Next up is Dershowitz vs. Prager. This program has been rescheduled to accommodate Dershowitz’ court obligations, so plan to come to AJ on Thursday, October 8, at 8 p.m. to hear two of the nation’s most provocative voices on issues surrounding Judaism and the Middle East conflict. They will come debate Zionism, democracy, torture, social justice, the current administration and other pressing issues during this presentation.

Alan Dershowitz is a Brooklyn native who has been called “the nation’s most peripatetic civil liberties lawyer” and “America’s most public Jewish defender.” He is the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. Dennis Prager runs a nationally syndicated talk show from Los Angeles, and has appeared on Larry King Live, Hardball, Hannity & Colmes, CBS Evening News and The Today Show.

The final program, on Sunday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. will feature actress and comedian Susie Essman and broadcast personality Joy Behar. They will life and their unconventional wisdom for others in what will undoubtedly be a hilarious evening.

Essman is best known for her role as Susie Greene on the HBO comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm, and she is a veteran stand-up comic. Behar is a cohost of ABC’s The View, and frequently contributes to the world of entertainment as an actress, commentator and author.

Ticket prices are $7.50 per person to any of the LIVE at 92nd Street Y events.

Students will be admitted free with valid ID. All profits from these events will support future programming at Adath Jeshurun. Please call the office at 458- 5359 with any questions, or to purchase tickets.
